Cherished for Who She Truly Is: Naya’s Story
When we talk about the Woven Together Movement, this is what we mean—lives forever changed because someone stepped in, said yes, and chose to be part of a child’s healing story.
Today, we want to introduce you to Naya Moore, a remarkable little girl whose journey reminds us why specialized, trauma-informed, interdisciplinary care is not optional—it is essential. And why your generosity truly changes the trajectory of a child’s life.
A Story That Almost Ended Before It Began
Naya was born in China and placed anonymously at the doorsteps of an orphanage when she was just six months old. At age nine, she was adopted by a U.S. family in Ohio—but without the benefit of pre-adoption medical review or guidance.
When Naya arrived in their home, it became clear very quickly that her needs were far more complex than anyone realized. With no adoption clinic nearby, her new parents were left to navigate unfamiliar medical concerns with only good intentions and a standard pediatric exam. Her symptoms were attributed to “orphanage delay,” and her parents were told that time and love would smooth out what they were seeing.
But time passed…
And love, though present, could not replace the specialized care she desperately needed.
Her parents became overwhelmed, discouraged, and eventually heartbroken. After a year of trying to cope without adequate support, the family made an unthinkable decision: they legally terminated the adoption.
This is not rare. And it is not due to a lack of love.
It is due to a lack of access—to experts, to answers, to help.
A New Beginning: A Family Who Said Yes Again
Instead of entering the U.S. foster system, Naya was taken in by the Moore family, a compassionate family in North Alabama who stepped in when everything seemed uncertain.
Thankfully, the Moores came straight to us!
At their very first visit, Naya was seen by our full interdisciplinary team—physician, therapist, developmental specialist—over the course of a 4–5 hour appointment designed to uncover the whole picture of her needs. This is our Complex Care Plan in action, and it’s why we exist.
What we discovered changed everything:
Naya wasn’t simply delayed—
She had cerebral palsy, likely caused by early brain injury. She also had a significant intellectual disability.
Her CP affected her ability to eat and speak.
She was deaf in one ear.
None of these diagnoses had ever been made.
Because no one had ever looked at her through a lens of trauma, adoption, and specialized pediatrics.
Healing Happens When Families Are Supported
With the right diagnoses in hand, we were able to craft an intervention plan that included:
Ongoing visits every 3 months
Parent coaching from Kelly
School support and IEP guidance from Amy
Referrals and collaboration with her local pediatrician
Tools and strategies to help her thrive at home, at school, and in her community
Her new parents now understand her true abilities, limitations, and strengths. And because they have realistic expectations, their relationship with their daughter is flourishing.
Her mom recently told us:
“She is often the best little girl I know.”
Naya is being cherished—fully, completely—for who she truly is.
This Is Why We Are Woven Together
Children like Naya deserve a team who sees them clearly and a community who stands beside them. But this level of specialized care is costly, time-intensive, and unreimbursed by insurance.
Your generosity makes stories like Naya’s possible.
If you believe every child deserves to be known, understood, and supported…
If you believe no parent should carry complex trauma alone…
If you believe that families like the Moores should never feel abandoned on the hardest road they will ever walk…
Then we invite you—from the bottom of our hearts—to join the movement.
Give today and become part of a child’s healing story.
Your gift does more than fund a clinic visit.
It creates stability.
It restores hope.
It rewrites the story for a child who deserves a future filled with possibility.
This is more than an event.
More than a campaign.
It is a movement—a tapestry being woven one life at a time.
And we cannot do it without you.
